Oct 25, 2024
Here's that link again for my studio resources and colour list: First Steps Guide
The sky can be a blend of many different colours, but how do you paint a simple but impactful blue sky?
As mentioned in my previous video, my students often come to me with colour mixing troubles and fears. So, I thought I'd put together a couple of videos showing how easy it is to colour match oil paints to photo references. Today we look at mixing sky colours. Sounds simple, and definitely can be, but you might be surprised by my colour choices.
Ultramarine blue
Sapphire
Turquoise
Magenta
Spectrum Yellow
Titanium White
Looking at a simple photo I've never seen before, I did a quick painting showing you my process of mixing, applying, and blending oil colours.
What colours do you normally use to paint skies? Have a go yourself and let me know if you found success.
